Expansion Plans...
It's been almost three years
since Mid-Dakota reached its system capacity of nine million gallons per day
(MGD) and had to impose a moratorium on new hookups. It has been three very long
years of toiling to find an affordable expansion solution and working with
government financing agencies to identify the means to pay for the upgrades. We
are pleased to report that all of the elements for a successful resolution have
come together. We have identified a project that will increase our production
and delivery capacity from nine MGD to 13.5 MGD, an increase of 50%. Mid-Dakota
has now embraced, committed and embarked on expansion plans that are describe
throughout this page.

Intake...
Ultimately we will upgrade the pumps and motors at the facility. These
upgrades may not take place immediately, they may instead, be deferred down the
road to when the need becomes more urgent. If it's determined that the upgrades
should occur now, the construction will be included in the water treatment plant
contract.

Raw Water Storage...
The capacity of the raw water storage tanks will be
increased from 408,000 gallons to approximately 635,000 gallons. The storage
tanks are of bolted glass-lined design and increasing the storage capacity is
done by adding "rings" to the tank structure; think grain bin construction, to
get a mental picture of the work to be done.
Water Treatment Plant...
We'll replace the existing conventional filters
(gravel, sand & coal) with a new more efficient submerged membrane filtration
system. The pumps and motors will be replaced with larger equipment and much of
the process piping will undergo a significant transformation as well.
Treated Water Storage...
A new water storage tank ("Canning Tank") will be
constructed along Highway 14 approximately nine miles east of Pierre. The tank
will be 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0 million gallons of storage, depending upon funds
available.
